Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kerem Koçkar, a faculty member in the Department of Civil Engineering at our university’s Faculty of Engineering, attended the press conference held in Ankara ahead of the 40th General Assembly of the European Seismological Commission (ESC2026), which will take place in Istanbul from September 6 to 11, 2026.
Organized by the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), ESC2026 will bring together scientists, researchers, engineers, public administrators, decision-makers, and industry representatives from different countries around the world in Istanbul in the fields of earthquake science and seismology.
More than 800 researchers from over 60 countries are expected to participate in the event, where a wide range of topics will be addressed, including earthquake science, seismic hazard and risk, ground motion, seismic monitoring, earthquake engineering, and disaster-resilient communities.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kerem Koçkar, President of the Turkish Earthquake Engineering Association and a faculty member at our university, provided information about the association’s activities during the press conference. Koçkar stated that the Turkish Earthquake Engineering Association is a non-governmental organization that brings together professionals from different disciplines with the aim of reducing earthquake-related losses.
Koçkar noted that the association brings together engineers, basic scientists, architects, urban and regional planners, economists, and social science experts. He also stated that the association organizes conferences, seminars, workshops, and scientific training programs to raise awareness about earthquakes.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kerem Koçkar, who serves in the Geotechnical Engineering Division of the Department of Civil Engineering, continues his academic research in various fields, particularly geotechnical engineering, soil mechanics, soil dynamics, and foundation engineering.
