The 2026 Open Days, which guide prospective students through their higher education choices, will enable prospective students to continue gathering information by visiting faculties and vocational colleges throughout the application period.
The 2026 Open Days, which addressed the queries of prospective students and showcased Hacettepe University’s academic, cultural and social heritage, took place at the Tunçalp Özgen Congress and Culture Centre on the Beytepe Campus. On 1–2 August, prospective students and their families had the opportunity to obtain first-hand information on a range of topics relating to Hacettepe, from academic programmes to campus life. As part of the Open Days, prospective students and their families met with our University’s Rector, Prof. Dr Mehmet Cahit Güran, to receive answers to their questions regarding educational opportunities and the application process.
The opening address at the event, which saw a large turnout of prospective students and their families, was delivered by our Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr Ahmet Serper.
Prof. Dr Serper: “Hacettepe University will be a strong partner on your journey.”
In his opening address to university applicants and their families, Prof. Dr Ahmet Serper stated that they were aware of the excitement felt by the applicants and the sense of responsibility and sensitivity borne by their families; “As Hacettepe University, we are not merely an institution that awards diplomas to our young people; we are a university that offers a vast educational and lifestyle ecosystem, bringing them into contact with knowledge, research, scientific thinking, ethical values, culture, the arts, sport and a sense of social responsibility,” he said.
Noting that one of the most significant impacts of choosing a university is making a difference, Prof. Dr Serper emphasised that this difference is created in two ways, as follows:
“A difference is created in two ways. The first is achieved through a person’s own efforts. The second emerges from the environment and atmosphere in which the person finds themselves. As Hacettepe University, and as those seeking to promote Hacettepe University, we know just how much of a difference we make. What matters is being able to convey this sense of family, this Hacettepe spirit, to those who are about to join our family. When we convey this, everyone will see and understand the difference we make, and they will feel great joy and honour in being a member of that family.”
“Dear families, today we see both pride and a sweet sense of anxiety in your eyes,” said Prof. Dr Serper, expressing the joy felt by the families, before continuing:
“Dear families, it is perfectly natural for you to want your children to receive a good education, to be in a safe environment, and to grow up as happy individuals. Here at Hacettepe, we would like to assure you of the following: we adopt an approach that supports our students not only at the time of enrolment, but also upon graduation and beyond. Our fundamental aim is to nurture them not only to achieve academic success but also to become individuals who uphold ethical values, are socially conscious, productive and responsible.”
Prof. Dr Ahmet Serper, addressing prospective students making their university choices, advised: “When making your choice, listen not only to your marks but also to your interests, your curiosity, your talents and the kind of person you wish to become. Success gains meaning when one works hard in a field they love. Hacettepe University will be a strong companion on your journey.”
Following Prof. Dr Ahmet Serper’s speech, a musical recital was performed by artists from the Ankara State Conservatoire. After the recital, prospective students and their families began visiting the information stands set up by the academic departments and student societies.
They are getting to know Hacettepe University up close
As part of the Open Days, faculty stand presentations, campus tours, department visits, a Biosphere tour and student society stand presentations were held. The event, which took place on Saturday 1 August from 10.30 am to 6.00 pm, continued on Sunday 2 August from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm.
During the Open Days, academics and students shared information with prospective students about the faculties’ and departments’ study programmes, academic facilities, practical training opportunities and career prospects after graduation; prospective students were able to find direct answers to their questions at the stands regarding not only educational opportunities but also scholarships, accommodation, exchange programmes, study abroad opportunities, and social and cultural activities.
A first taste of campus life
Through organised campus tours and department visits, prospective students also had the opportunity to experience Hacettepe’s educational and research environment first-hand as part of the Open Days. Visiting faculties, departments and various areas of the campus, prospective students obtained information from academics and students regarding the programmes they were considering.
Through the Biosphere tour organised as part of the programme, visitors witnessed first-hand the social impact of our university’s scientific research. Meanwhile, the stands set up by student societies introduced prospective students to Hacettepe’s social and cultural life.
Whilst the Hacettepe University 2026 Open Days will come to an end at 6.00 pm on Sunday 2 August, prospective students and their families will be able to continue visiting the faculties and vocational schools throughout the application period to find out more about the educational opportunities on offer.
