Assoc. Prof. Dr. Biltan Kürkcüoğlu, a faculty member of the Department of Geological Engineering at Hacettepe University, has been awarded support for his project under the TÜBİTAK 2515-COST Action Members R&D Support Program, European Cooperation in Science and Technology Program. The project, titled “Investigation of rift-related alkaline magmatism, source melting, and lithospheric deformation development along the Toprakkale Fault (Osmaniye) in the Eastern Mediterranean region, the East Anatolia and Dead Sea Transform Faults,” will be carried out under the CA23150-coded “pan-EUROpean BioGeodynamics network (EUROBIG)” COST action. The project involves faculty members from the Department of Geological Engineering, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Biltan Kürkcüoğlu, Prof. Dr. Tekin Yürür, Prof. Dr. Galip Yüce, Dr. Burcu Kahraman, Dr. Güllü Deniz Külahcı; PhD student Dihak Asena Önder; and scientists from Italy and the USA. The project aims to conduct a detailed investigation into the origin of magmatism developing in active fault zones and the associated deformations occurring in the lithosphere.
