Times Higher Education (THE) has been publishing Asian Universities rankings since 2013, using the same indicators as world university rankings (teaching quality, research, publications and citations, industry income, and international visibility). While 489 universities from 30 countries were evaluated in the ranking in 2020, the number of universities evaluated this year increased by 62 to 551 universities. The number of universities that managed to enter the rankings this year in Turkey increased from 34 to 43.
Hacettepe University has been included in the ranking since 2016 and shows a continuous upward trend. Hacettepe University, which was ranked 161-170 in the band in 2017, 138 in 2018, 116 in 2019, and 118 in 2020, ranked 125th in this year's THE Asian Universities ranking. Hacettepe University, which was ranked 9th in Turkey in 2017, maintained its ranking as the best state university in 2021, and ranked behind only 3 foundational universities which were Sabancı, Koç and Çankaya Universities.
In the results of THE Asia Universities 2021, where universities are evaluated according to 2017-2018 academic year data, Hacettepe University is seen that it has risen to the 4th place after Sabancı, Koç and Çankaya universities this year, while it was in the 5th place after Bilkent University last year.

The strength of Hacettepe University's 2021 performance summary is the scientific citation effect criterion, which is in a serious increase. An upward trend is also observed in research incomes. Considering the citations, Hacettepe University ranks 344th in the world and 1st among state universities in Turkey.
