Hacettepe’s Mark on the PHRC Report

Since 2022, Hacettepe University has been part of the PHRC (Planetary Health Report Card) evaluation network and has achieved significant successes according to the 2025 data. The Planetary Health Report Card (PHRC) is an international assessment initiative, led by students, that measures the contributions of health education institutions to planetary health. First launched in 2019 by students at the University of California, San Francisco, this initiative quickly evolved into a global movement and, as of 2025, operates as an independent, non-profit organization. As of the 2024-2025 period, a total of 188 health education institutions from 21 countries have participated in this report.

According to the 2025 PHRC report, Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine made significant progress in planetary health, improving its grade from C- to C. Meanwhile, the Faculty of Pharmacy at Hacettepe University advanced from a D+ grade in the 2023-2024 report to a C grade. The progress of both the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Pharmacy demonstrates the effective results of Hacettepe University's education and initiatives related to planetary health.

These achievements highlight that planetary health must become an integral part of health education, while also drawing attention to the impacts of environmental threats on human health. It is well known that climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss increase respiratory diseases, infectious diseases, and mental health problems, especially affecting disadvantaged communities. In this context, planetary health education aims to equip health professionals with the knowledge to address environmental impacts and promote sustainable practices.
