Izmir Biomedicine and Genome Center (IBG), established in January 2018, became Turkey's first "Thematic Research Center". The aim of IBG is to develop innovative technologies and products for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases with an approach that uses basic research as a driving force.
Within the scope of "IBG 10 NOVEMBER SCIENCE DAY" (https://www.ibg.edu.tr/science-day-2022), which is held every year on November 10 in order to commemorate Atatürk, who taught the Turkish Nation that science is the truest guide, IBG Science Medal is given to a researcher who has original, pioneering and groundbreaking studies in the field of "life sciences".
Hacettepe University, Computer Engineering and Artificial Intelligence Dept. and Institute of Health Sciences, Bioinformatics Dept. faculty member Assoc. Dr. Tunca Doğan is awarded the 2022 IBG Science Medal. It was reported that Dr. Tunca Doğan won this award for his scientific research in the fields of bioinformatics and artificial intelligence (i.e., predicting the functions of genes and proteins and constructing deep learning-based computational methods for developing new drugs).
