In the 2024-2025 academic year, various activities on the topic of "fighting addiction" were organized on December 24-25, 2024, as part of the SEC-513 course titled "Addiction Prevention and Combatting Addiction" at our university.
During the fall semester, the course was led by Prof. Dr. Dilek Aslan, with active contributions from members of the Addiction Combatting Commission: Prof. Dr. Berna Uluğ, Prof. Dr. Yasemin Özkan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bikem Kargı, and Specialist Psychologist Umut Ulusu. The students aimed to raise awareness about the fight against tobacco, substance, alcohol, and behavioral addictions. As part of the course’s closing events, they organized a panel to share the knowledge they gained in the "Addiction Prevention and Combatting Addiction" course with other students.
How Should We Fight Addiction in Hacettepe?” In the panel titled, Hacettepe University Addiction Fighting Commission members, Exp. Psychologist Umut Ulusu, Prof. Dr. Dilek Aslan, Assoc. Dr. Bikem Kargı made a presentation. Additionally, while Gülcan Pazarkaya made a presentation to represent the students, our student Eslem Tuana moderated the panel.
At the panel, participants found answers to their questions about addiction. After the panel event, students continued their awareness activities by opening stands in front of the Sıhhiye Campus Dining Hall and Library, aiming to provide information to other students.
Hacettepe University Addiction Combatting Commission
The HÜ-ACC was established in 2022 to contribute to the continuation of essential subjective studies in the areas of addiction and to ensure that future activities are carried out in coordination.
The main topics of the commission include:
1. Fighting tobacco and tobacco use/addiction
2. Fighting alcohol addiction
3. Fighting substance addiction
4. Fighting other behavioral addictions (digital, gaming, internet, gambling)
