The “ÜNİ101: Introduction to University Life” course, which has the highest participation in Turkey and was held at our university, was held at the Beytepe Campus Open Amphitheater with the participation of 6,985 students. Designed to facilitate the adaptation process of students who will be placed in Hacettepe in the 2024-2025 academic year to university life, the ÜNİ101 event welcomed new students with the promotional stands they opened, where 110 student groups opened. The opening ceremony began with a concert conducted by Hacettepe University Symphony Orchestra Conductor Prof. Burak Tüzün, with Ankara State Conservatory Opera Department student Serhat Balaban as a soloist.
Following the concert, our Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Cahit Güran made the opening speech of the “ÜNİ101” course. Congratulating the students for their outstanding success in the YKS and for choosing Hacettepe, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Cahit Güran said the following:
“Dear students, today I am happy and proud to have added approximately 7 thousand students to the Hacettepe family. One out of every three of the approximately 7 thousand students who joined the Hacettepe family this year chose our university first. Let me tell you another indicator of our university’s success; you have come to a university that accepts students from the first rank in the state university category in Turkey in all of our programs in Sıhhiye. You will feel the privilege of being a Hacettepe University graduate throughout your life. The UNI 101 course that we have opened is one of the unique practices of our university. This course is a mandatory and credit-based course that we designed to facilitate the adaptation process of our students who will be new to the Hacettepe family, by sharing the necessary information and tips with them so that they can benefit from university life effectively and in many ways.”
Rector Güran, who shared important information about Hacettepe, ended his speech by giving advice to students about university life.
The event continued with the first lecture titled “University and Science: A Brief Analysis from the Past to the Present” by our university’s Faculty of Medicine Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Fatih Özaltın, who was deemed worthy of the TÜBİTAK Science Award.
The opening ceremony ended after the concert of the Hacettepe Brass Ensemble, which was established within the Ankara State Conservatory’s Wind and Percussion Instruments Department and Jazz Department; consisting of academicians and students.
The closing of the Introduction to University Life Course, which continued for 5 days with participatory talks, department introductions and campus tours, was realized with the “ÜNİ 101 Concert”, the first concert of the new season by the Hacettepe University Symphony Orchestra.
