Our university's 2023-2024 Academic Year Opening Ceremony started with a visit to Anıtkabir on Monday, October 2. The ceremony where Hacettepe Awards and Professorship Certificates were also presented; Hacettepe University administration and academics and Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan attended.
At the opening ceremony held at the Sıhhiye Campus Cultural Center, the elegies composed for the February 6 earthquake by Ankara State Conservatory Faculty Member Cenk Güray and his student Ata Sıvacı were performed. Then, Guitar Art Department Lecturer Eren Süalp gave a mini concert.
At the ceremony, which continued with the opening speeches, Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan made a speech and said: “I am very pleased to be together with you, my esteemed professors, friends and students, on the occasion of the 2023-2024 academic year opening ceremony of Hacettepe University, which I see as my first home. I am particularly excited and happy to have served with you in our education and academy community under this roof and to contribute to the scientific knowledge of Hacettepe until I took over the ministry post with the appreciation of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. I am very proud to have returned as a minister of our country to this educational institution, where I spent both my student life and my working life for many years, and which prepared and educated me for today. Hacettepe has a very special place. I don't think there is any other community that has contributed so much to the world, the world of medicine, and universal knowledge. I would like to congratulate all our valuable academics and young brothers, especially our Rector. The new academic year of Hacettepe, of which I am very proud to be a member and graduate; I hope it will bring goodness to the entire Hacettepe family, especially our teachers and students.”
Following Minister Işıkhan's speech, our Rector Mehmet Cahit Güran made the opening speech. Güran said, “We have completed approximately 3 years, it has been a very fast-paced 3 years in which intense work has been carried out and important gains have been achieved. Dear Hacettepe family, today is the day to say new things for our university, to take new steps, to move away from personal sterile conflicts and artificial agendas and to be together for the goal of moving forward and achieving the best. The day is the day to raise graduates with national and moral values who aim to surpass the points reached by our internationally renowned scientists and artists who have made the name of our country and our university known to the world. For the 2023-2024 academic year; I hope it will bring health, peace and success for our students, academic and administrative staff and our country.” he said.
Cahit Güran continued his speech by touching on the developments in higher education and our university in Turkey, the projects carried out and our achievements, and shared his plans on the issues to be taken in the coming periods.
Hacettepe Awards and Professorship Certificates were presented
As part of the opening ceremony, the "Hacettepe Awards", which have been held since 1992, were presented to scientists who made a difference with their work.
year 2022; Hamit Köksel was deemed worthy of the Community Service Award, Nuray Senemoğlu was deemed worthy of the Contribution to Education Award, Göksel Güven was deemed worthy of the Science Incentive Award, and Işıl Tüfekci Ardıç was deemed worthy of the Art Encouragement Award.
Following the Hacettepe Awards, professorship certificates were presented to 97 faculty members who were appointed to professorships in 2022-2023 by our Rector Mehmet Cahit Güran.
