The first Science Cafe event was held at our university

The first Science Café event titled “Child, Family, and Partner Relationships” was held on June 27 at 1.30 PM in Hamamönü, one of the busiest areas of Ankara, in collaboration with Hacettepe University, the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), and the Science Communication Office (BİO).

The event, coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Sevinç Gelmez Burakgazi from the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Hacettepe University Faculty of Education, began with a musical performance by Prof. Dr. Cenk Güray from the Department of Music Theory at Hacettepe University and international expert Jan Nigges.

Prof. Dr. İbrahim Keklik, a faculty member in the Department of Psychological Counseling and Guidance at Hacettepe University, participated in the event as a speaker. In his speech, he stated: “I have always believed that science is for the public, and I act accordingly. There are several reasons why I am here today, and one of them is my belief that people's aspirations and ideals are shaped during childhood within the family.” He continued his talk on child, family, and partner relationships—organized in recognition of the Year of the Family 2025—with an interactive Q&A session. The Science Café event attracted great interest from both the public and the media.

Assoc. Prof. Sevinç Gelmez Burakgazi, the event coordinator, commented on the event by saying: “We often criticize ourselves for following scientific developments from behind. However, through the activities of the Science Communication Office and these collective Science Café events held with the participation of 150 universities across 81 provinces, I see a unique, creative, and pioneering initiative. If this momentum is effectively utilized, this time we—as Turkey and our universities—will break this cycle and become the ones to be followed.”
