"A Contribution to Global Collaboration from Hacettepe: DoLS is Now Online

Hacettepe University is contributing to a new open science infrastructure that brings together learned societies from around the world. With Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zehra Taşkın from the Department of Information Management, serving as a member of the Management Committee, the Directory of Learned Societies (DoLS) project marks an important step towards enhancing global scientific collaboration and visibility.

DoLS provides an open and growing database of learned societies and their affiliated academic journals worldwide. By integrating information such as organizational type, journal connections, and geographical details, the directory aims to increase the visibility of societies, facilitate collaboration among researchers, and support networking. In this way, it contributes to research on the production, communication, and impact of knowledge across the arts and sciences.

This significant open science infrastructure is developed and administered by the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies (TSV), which represents around 300 learned societies in Finland. The Management Committee ensures the accuracy and currency of the register and will later be supported by an international advisory council of experts.

DoLS is being developed in line with the Principles of Open Scholarly Infrastructure (POSI) and collaborates with infrastructures such as the Research Organization Registry (ROR) to promote diversity, reliability, and interoperability of open research information.

New society submissions are open
DoLS currently includes 1431 learned societies. However, only a few societies from Turkiye are registered so far. To increase the global visibility of learned societies in our country, new submissions are strongly encouraged. To be included in this global directory, a society simply needs to have a ROR ID and complete the submission form.
