Earthquake Awareness from Students of Hacettepe University Social Work Department

Students of the Social Work Department of Hacettepe University made a difference with their social service practices and TUBITAK research carried out in the Malatya Container City after the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş.

The “Hayat Good Living Center” project, carried out in collaboration between our university and Hayat Holding, involved our students actively working in the Malatya Container City. Through the TUBITAK research they conducted, they strengthened their field experiences with academic knowledge.

Under the supervision of our university's faculty member, Prof. Dr. Yasemin Ozkan, these studies not only reinforced the students' knowledge and skills but also enabled them to make stronger contributions to trauma, crisis management, and solidarity processes after the disaster with ethical and solution-oriented approaches in disaster conditions.

In the TUBITAK research led by the Head of the Social Work Department, Prof. Dr. Yasemin Ozkan, our students aimed to reduce trauma and increase resilience by addressing the psychosocial needs of individuals affected by the earthquake, while prioritizing social benefit.

Faculty members of the Social Work Department emphasize that these meaningful studies carried out after the earthquake are highly valuable both for the students and the field of social work. They note that they made significant contributions to social solidarity, recovery, and the processes of reconstruction.
