Hacettepe University Maintains Its Upward Trend in the CWTS Leiden Ranking 2025

The results of the 2025 CWTS Leiden Rankings, conducted by the Center for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) at Leiden University in the Netherlands, have been announced. This year, for the first time, the rankings were published in two separate versions based on different data sources: the Traditional Leiden Ranking, which relies on Web of Science data, and the Leiden Open Edition, which draws on open data sources. While the traditional edition evaluates research impact through citation-based indicators, the Open Edition presents the same indicators using open data platforms such as OpenAlex, enabling a more transparent comparison of institutional research performance.

In the Traditional Leiden Ranking 2025, a total of 1,594 universities were evaluated. Hacettepe University, which ranked 394th worldwide last year, rose to 378th place this year. In this edition, 45 universities from Türkiye were included in the ranking.

In the Leiden Open Edition, published for the first time this year and based on open data sources, 2,831 universities were evaluated. Hacettepe University ranked 396th in this edition, in which 107 universities from Türkiye were included.

Ranking within Türkiye
