Hacettepe University Moves Up to the 601–700 Band in ARWU 2026

                           

The 2026 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), published by ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, has been released. Hacettepe University moved from the 701-800 band in 2025 to the 601-700 band in 2026.

According to the detailed ARWU 2026 analysis prepared for Hacettepe University, the University rose 40 places, from 702nd in 2025 to 662nd in 2026. It remained 3rd in Türkiye.

An analysis of Hacettepe University’s ARWU performance over the last five years shows that it ranked 699th in 2022, 725th in 2023, 741st in 2024 and 702nd in 2025. According to the data, our university achieved its highest ranking in the last five years with this significant rise recorded in 2026.

14 Universities from Türkiye in the Top 1,000

A total of 14 universities from Türkiye were included in the ARWU 2026 top 1,000. Hacettepe University, Istanbul University and University of Health Sciences Türkiye were placed in the 601-700 band, the highest band reached by universities from Türkiye this year.

Ankara University and Koç University were ranked in the 701-800 band. Six universities were placed in the 801-900 band, while Erciyes University, Middle East Technical University and Yildiz Technical University were in the 901-1000 band.

Hacettepe’s ARWU 2026 Indicator Performance

ARWU evaluates universities using six indicators: alumni winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals (Alumni), staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals (Award), Highly Cited Researchers (HiCi), papers published in Nature and Science (N&S), papers indexed in SCIE and SSCI (PUB), and per capita academic performance (PCP).

Hacettepe ranked 391st worldwide in the PUB indicator, which measures research articles indexed in SCIE and SSCI. Its PUB performance placed the University in the top 25% among institutions ranked in the 601-700 band.

Over 2,500 universities are assessed as part of the ARWU

First published in 2003, the Academic Ranking of World Universities is produced by ShanghaiRanking Consultancy. More than 2,500 universities are ranked each year, with the top 1,000 published.

ARWU assigns a weight of 10% to Alumni, 20% to Award, 20% to HiCi, 20% to N&S, 20% to PUB and 10% to PCP.
