Miraculous surgery for throat cancer patient

An operation, the first in Turkey and very rare in the world, was performed by our University Faculty of Medicine, Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Department Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Serdar Nasır and his team.

An esophagus and voice tube were made from his intestines to a 33-year-old patient who had been fed with a tube in his stomach for 2 years due to laryngeal cancer and could not speak. The patient, whose larynx and esophagus were removed 2 years ago due to his disease, could only eat food-like foods through a tube inserted into his stomach and could not speak. Prof. Dr. Serdar Nasır and his team brought the patient back to life.

In a surgical operation that lasted approximately 11 hours, an esophagus and voice tube were made from the large and small intestines to the patient. Thanks to this operation, the patient was able to eat solid foods and speak without the need for device support.
