Hacettepe University, Faculty of Education, Mathematics and Science Education Department faculty member Assoc. Prof. Ayşe Yolcu’s research project titled “Making of (In)equities in Mathematics Education: Cultural Analysis of Systems of Thought and Pedagogical Practices Organizing Mathematics Learning Opportunities” has received support from Scientific and Technological Council of Turkey.
This two-year project aims to develop a contextual and cultural understanding of how differences and inequities are made among students in mathematics education. In-depth cultural analysis of mathematics learning opportunities will make visible how making mathematics accessible to students simultaneously produce differences and hierarchies among them.
The project will be carried out in collaboration with Assoc. Prof. İ. Elif Yetkin Özdemir from Hacettepe University, Department of Mathematics Education and Assist. Prof. E. Gül Çelebi from TED University. This project will direct the attentions to the classroom practices and systems of thought that should be revisited to make mathematics classrooms more equitable and inclusive.
