One of the world’s most comprehensive sustainability campus rankings, the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking, has announced its 2025 results. According to the released data, Hacettepe University ranked 183rd worldwide in the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking 2025, in which 1,745 universities were evaluated.
While our university was ranked 299th in 2024, it achieved a remarkable rise of 116 places in 2025. Additionally, among the 142 universities from Türkiye that applied for the UI GreenMetric evaluation, Hacettepe University improved its national ranking from 30th place in 2024 to 20th place in 2025, further strengthening its position within Türkiye.
With a total score of 8,235 out of 10,000, Hacettepe University demonstrated a balanced performance across the categories of Infrastructure (SI), Energy and Climate Change (EC), Waste Management (WS), Water Management (WR), Transportation (TR), and Education & Research (ED).
The UI GreenMetric system evaluates universities and their campuses under six main categories. These categories are:
- Setting and Infrastructure (SI)
- Energy and Climate Change (EC)
- Waste (WS)
- Water (WR)
- Transportation (TR)
- Education and Research (ED)

These results demonstrate that Hacettepe University’s holistic approach to sustainability—ranging from campus infrastructure to energy and resource efficiency, from waste and water management to sustainable transportation practices—has found a strong, visible, and competitive response at both national and international levels, supported by its education and research activities.
Reflection of Institutional Efforts in Sustainability
In recent years, Hacettepe University has strengthened its sustainability efforts at the institutional level, taking significant steps in areas such as reducing its carbon footprint, investing in energy efficiency, improving waste management processes, optimizing water use, promoting sustainable transportation within the campus, and expanding sustainability education initiatives.
The UI GreenMetric 2025 results are of great importance as they demonstrate that Hacettepe University’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG)-oriented sustainability approach has been recognized and aligned with international standards.
This team-based effort highlights that Hacettepe University addresses sustainability within a multidisciplinary, participatory, and institutionalized framework.
