
An international seminar focusing on the “One Health” approach was held at Hacettepe University as part of the “Italian Research Day in the World.” Hosted at the Sıhhiye Campus Cultural Center in Ankara, the event provided an important platform for strengthening scientific cooperation between Türkiye and Italy.
Organized in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy, the program opened with speeches by the Rector of Hacettepe University, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Cahit Güran, and His Excellency Giuseppe Manzo, Ambassador of Italy to Türkiye. The session introduction was delivered by Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Necla Özer.
Bringing together representatives from various countries, the event also attracted a broad international audience through online participation. Prof. Dr. Muhammet Nur Öğün, Deputy Director General of the Public Health Directorate of the Turkish Ministry of Health, was also in attendance.
During the seminar, Prof. Dr. Vladia Monsurrò addressed the role of science diplomacy in international research collaborations. The keynote speaker, Prof. Dr. Luigina Romani, presented “One Health: A Holistic Vision,” highlighting the scientific foundations of an approach that considers human, animal, and environmental health as an integrated whole.
Academics from Hacettepe University also shared their current research. Prof. Dr. Gökhan Metan discussed antimicrobial resistance from a “One Health” perspective, while Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serra Örsten evaluated the integration of this approach into educational processes. Prof. Dr. Denise Giacomini delivered a presentation focusing on holistic and preventive strategies in healthcare systems.
The program concluded with a Q&A session moderated by Prof. Dr. Murat Akova and Prof. Dr. Vladia Monsurrò. The importance of an interdisciplinary approach was once again emphasized, and Hacettepe University’s role in international scientific collaboration was brought to the forefront.
