Prof. Dr. Golshan Zare. Banu Bulduk Türkmen shared the following information about the exhibition:
“To date, we have collaborated on the following scientific illustration projects: From Blue to Light: The Cambrian-themed Paleontological Illustration Exhibition, the MediArt-themed Medical Illustration Exhibition, the DentArt’24 Dental Illustration Exhibition, and the EntomolArt’25 Entomological Illustration Exhibition. This year, we are excited to add botany to these projects, bringing a different discipline to art. In these exhibitions, compiled from project exhibitions, our project scientific advisors have made significant contributions to this specialized field, a subfield of illustration, supporting and developing the scientific aspect of our work. Scientific Illustration, as defined by Alan Male, is “an art form in the service of science.” Beyond mere aesthetic expression, it is scientific visualizations resulting from an interdisciplinary production process, resulting from the interactive collaboration of science and art, resulting in observation, patience, research, and disciplined work. Behind every line lies intense labor, and behind every detail lies a wealth of knowledge based on a specific scientific discipline. This approach highlights the interdisciplinary interaction between art and science. This exhibition demonstrates the richness and common language that emerges when different disciplines, art, science, and design, intertwine. As we develop this language, we strive to produce drawings of high scientific value and serve science without making any mistakes or compromising accuracy.”
This exhibition, the fifth in a series of scientific illustration exhibitions brought together science and art by the Scientific Illustration Research and Application Group, mentored by Prof. Dr. Banu Bulduk Türkmen, aims to contribute to the literature and strengthen interdisciplinary interaction by producing high-quality works on the visual representation of scientific knowledge.
The Scientific Illustration Research and Application Group artists are comprised of Hacettepe University Graphic Arts Department students, the majority of whom work as faculty members at various universities and are pursuing academic research in this field. The selection also includes works by both medical students and two specialist physicians.
Providing information about the exhibition's content, Prof. Dr. Banu Bulun said, “The exhibition features 31 works by 26 artists. Works selected from each field present a selection that addresses various scientific realities, including anatomical structures, heart and brain anatomy, surgical illustrations, insect and plant morphology, dental and craniofacial syndromes, plant biology, life cycles, and their roles within the ecosystem. Visual references used in the works are listed below the works in the exhibition, in accordance with reference guidelines.” The artists who created the works are as follows: Ali Enes Aldur, Ayşe Nur Toptaş, Büşra Uçar, Caner Kahya, Cemile Kaplan, Çağrı Kaş, Duygu Atay Orak, Eda Erkan, Elif Bekmezci, Elif Merve Urgancı, Elif Yıldız, Eray Özkan, Evrim Cengiz, Fatma Güneş, Fatma Zehra Saran, Gülce Yüksel, İrem Gürsu, Kübra Canlı, Leman Üstündağ, Mustafa Aldemir, Salih Sağlam, Serap Yılmaz Güntepe, Süeda Karaş, Taha Oğuz Mermeroğlu, Tuğçe Özsoy, and Ümit Ayyıldız.
