Supporting earthquake victims after the disaster: Hayat Well-Being Center

The Hayat Well-Being Center, located within the Malatya Samanköy New Life Temporary Accommodation Centre and established through a multi-stakeholder collaboration model between the university, public and private sectors, continues its activities. The Hayat Good Life Centre runs numerous programmes, including psychosocial support, health counselling and education, development through art and sports activities, play-based development activities for pre-school children, occupational therapy-focused activities, academic support, and literacy courses. The centre, which offers programmes specifically for women, children and young people, provides an environment that promotes social solidarity and intergenerational cultural interaction beyond individual empowerment.

Solidarity strengthened by the voluntary efforts of 393 Hacettepe University students
During the first two years of the project, funded by Hayat Holding, 393 Hacettepe University students volunteered to contribute to the centre's activities. Implemented through a multi-stakeholder collaboration model, the centre has reached thousands of people to date. The project, which has demonstrated direct, indirect and catalytic effects, serves as a prototype model supporting individuals' post-disaster rehabilitation and reintegration into social life.

The centre was designed as a safe, inclusive and accessible space
The project was implemented in an area allocated by AFAD under a protocol signed between Hacettepe University and Hayat Holding. The infrastructure of the project was completed by Hayat Holding, and its activity programme was developed with the academic support of Hacettepe University. Hacettepe University students and staff have been volunteering at the centre since 30 October 2023.

Designed as a safe, inclusive and accessible space, the centre aims to support the holistic well-being of individuals living in temporary accommodation conditions after a disaster, facilitate their integration into social life, strengthen social bonds and contribute to the normalisation process.

With İnönü University joining the collaboration in 2025, the project continues to strengthen its multi-stakeholder structure.
