Our university, in cooperation with the British Council, hosted a series of events where opportunities for partnership with representatives from UK universities were evaluated and postgraduate programmes were presented to students. The event, held on 29 September 2025, contributed to Hacettepe’s vision of internationalisation.
Collaboration opportunities were discussed
In the first part of the program, a meeting was held with the participation of the Hacettepe University administration, faculty members who are UK alumni, representatives from the British Council, and delegates from UK universities. The meeting, which began with opening remarks by Hacettepe University Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Sibel Aksu Yıldırım and British Council Türkiye Country Director Denise Waddingham, continued with a presentation introducing Hacettepe University to the participants. Afterwards, opportunities for mutual cooperation, academic exchange, and potential joint research projects were discussed. Participants also addressed possible challenges to collaboration and how these could be overcome. The discussion was further enriched by the experiences shared by Hacettepe University faculty members who are UK alumni, Prof. Dr. Uğur Ömürgönülşen and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zeynep Arkan Tuncel, as well as by Hacettepe University PhD student Ali Alkış, who serves as a volunteer ambassador in the British Council alumni group.
Information was gained about the study-abroad process
Following the meeting, a fair event entitled “UK University Introductions: Postgraduate Programmes”, organised by the Office of International Relations and the Career Development Centre (KARMER), took place. The event, which attracted great interest from our university’s students and alumni, featured distinguished higher education institutions from the United Kingdom, including Royal Holloway University of London, University of Hull, University of Liverpool, University of Nottingham, University of Worcester, University of York, SOAS University of London, Aberystwyth University and Swansea University.
Participants had the opportunity to receive direct information about postgraduate study opportunities, scholarship options, and application procedures. Students also took advantage of the chance to ask university representatives in person about the academic and administrative processes they may encounter while planning their education abroad.
The event not only contributed to raising our students’ awareness about educational opportunities on a global scale, but also laid the groundwork for strengthening our university’s relations with higher education institutions in the United Kingdom.
