URAP Announces 2021-2022 World University Rankings

Hacettepe University was ranked 524th among world universities in 2021-2022, and 1st among Turkish universities, in the 2021-2022 world university rankings prepared by URAP (University Ranking By Academic Performance) which covers 3,000 universities with the highest academic performance.

Universities from 121 different countries were evaluated in URAP's 2021-2022 world ranking. This year, URAP determined the 3,000 universities with the highest number of scientific publications and scored them according to the indicators. State research institutions such as the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Russian Academy of Sciences and hospitals were excluded from the ranking. The 3,000 higher education institutions in the URAP ranking represent approximately 15 percent of the worldwide total.

The 6 criteria used by URAP in the evaluation are as follows:

• Number of Articles: 21%

• Number of Citations: 21%

• Total Number of Documents: 10%

• Total Broadcast Impact: 18%

• Total Citation Impact: 15%

• International Cooperation: 15%


Harvard, Toronto, University College London, Stanford and Oxford universities are in the top five in the URAP 2021-2022 World Rankings, while 107 from the USA, 82 from China, 32 from Germany, 26 from England, 25 from Italy and Australia. 24 universities from Canada, 18 from Canada and France, 14 from Spain, 12 from the Netherlands and South Korea were listed in the top 500. No university in our country could enter the top 500 this year.

Hacettepe University, which showed great success by being in the top 500 last year, dropped 24 places and took the 524th place this year, despite the increase in its score on the basis of indicators. It was the 1st among 112 universities in Turkey that could enter the list.

Only 10 universities from Turkey were able to be in the top 1,000 of the rankings. The average of the total number of citations of these 10 universities in the range of 500-1,000 in the last 5 years was 49,711. Our university, which has the highest number of citations with 91,234 citations, decreased compared to the previous year, but all other indicator scores increased.
