The opening ceremony of the "Support Services Building", which was built on the Beytepe Campus and stands out for being completely made of waste materials and being portable, was held on March 16. Hacettepe University management, academic and administrative staff and CEO of Taleworlds company Armağan Yavuz attended the ceremony.
Designing this structure with a new technique he developed, our university Civil Engineering Department Lecturer Prof. Dr. Mustafa Şahmaran made a speech at the ceremony and explained the project process as follows. “In 2019, we presented a study within the scope of Turkey-England bilateral cooperation. The name of that project was “Lego Style Building Construction for Low Cost Housing”. In the following year, it was decided that projects between different countries that cooperated with England would be awarded on behalf of each country. We applied for this award within the scope of Turkey. We are in the first 4 of 50 applications in our country. The results of the award ceremony were announced and we received the award. Within the scope of this award, we started our work in this field with the support of our Rector.”
IT HAS THE FEATURE OF BEING THE FIRST IN THE WORLD
Explaining the features of the building, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Şahmaran said, “The first feature of this structure is that it is completely demountable. We can dismantle this structure and move it to another area whenever we want. All earthquake tests were also done. Another feature is that it is completely made of construction demolition wastes. For the first time in the world and in our country, a structure with these features has been designed.”
ANOTHER BUILDING IS DESIGNED TO BE SENT TO THE EARTHQUAKE ZONE
Expressing that they are designing another structure that can be completely disassembled and completely using construction waste, Şahmaran said that they want to finish this structure by the end of June and give it to the earthquake zone as a gift.
WE DID NOT SPEND 1 CENT
At the opening ceremony, our university Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Cahit Güran also made a speech and said: “First of all, let me express the value of this building for me, for a financer. I didn't spend a penny here. We created such a capacity without spending a penny. I find this building very meaningful as we have taken a step to improve the situation of our workers here, who have served this university with their efforts, but unfortunately have to carry out their services under very unfavorable conditions. This area was a place where companies that built on the campus dumped their excavation and construction rubble. We evaluated this situation. We also asked support from Taleworlds, which does its best to add value to our university. It was done right away in 2-3 months and it has reached its present position.”
