
Our university hosted a delegation from the University of Lübeck, one of Germany’s research-oriented higher education institutions, on February 16–17, 2026.
The delegation from the University of Lübeck, a research-focused university in Germany, conducted a comprehensive working visit at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine on February 16–17, 2026. During the visit, the two universities explored opportunities for sustainable, project-based collaboration, particularly in the field of health sciences.
On the first day of the program, during the opening session held at the R Hall of the Sıhhiye Cultural Center, our Rector, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Cahit Güran, emphasized the importance of strengthening academic cooperation between the two universities. Following this, the Rector of the University of Lübeck, Prof. Dr. Helge Braun, expressed his pleasure at being at Hacettepe University and highlighted the significance of mutual learning and experience sharing in research areas.
During the meeting, Esra Gül Özcan, Lecturer at the International Relations and Protocol Coordination Office, gave a presentation on our university’s academic infrastructure, education-research and innovation capacity, and international collaboration network. In addition, Prof. Dr. Hakan Göker, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, delivered a presentation introducing the faculty’s education and research structure, and Dr. Gül Kalyoncu, Coordinator of Administrative Affairs at Hacettepe University Hospitals, shared detailed information on the hospitals’ clinical capacity and research infrastructure.
Following the opening meeting, the delegation visited the Hacettepe University Art Museum located at the Sıhhiye Cultural Center.
During the two-day visit, they also toured the departments of Cardiology, Medical Genetics, Medical Oncology, Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology, the Rheumatology Division within the Department of Internal Medicine, the Department of Neurology, as well as İhsan Doğramacı Children’s Hospital.
During these visits, detailed information was shared regarding the research areas, ongoing projects, clinical studies, and existing international collaborations of the units. During the reciprocal presentations, potential joint project areas were evaluated, and it was agreed to hold online meetings to further elaborate on collaboration opportunities in line with the identified topics.
On the second day of the visit, under the chairmanship of Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Necla Özer, a meeting was held to discuss the cooperation areas between the two universities in a more concrete framework. Short-term academic exchange programs, summer school applications, and data-sharing-based joint research projects emerged as priority areas.
The visit concluded with a dinner hosted by our Rector, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Cahit Güran, in honor of the German delegation, followed by the signing of a Cooperation Protocol between the two universities. The signed protocol established the institutional and legal framework for collaboration between the two institutions.
This visit is expected to make a significant contribution to the development of long-term, research-oriented collaborations, particularly in the field of health sciences.
