The results of the ‘World's Best Hospitals 2026’ assessment, prepared in collaboration with Newsweek and Statista, analysing the performance of more than 2,500 hospitals worldwide, have been published. This year's assessment covers hospitals in 32 countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States. These countries were selected using multiple comparable criteria such as population size, life expectancy, standard of living, hospital density and availability of reliable data. Turkey was included in the list for the first time this year.
As is well known, Hacettepe University Hospitals, which have been accredited by Joint Commission International (JCI) as a ‘General Hospital’ since 2007, have been re-accredited by JCI under the name ‘Academic Medical Centre Hospital Standards’ since 2022. Hacettepe University Hospitals, the first public hospital in Turkey to be accredited by JCI under this scope, has successfully achieved accreditation for the sixth time until 2028, maintaining its status as the only public university hospital accredited under JCI's new Version 6 standard.
The results of the assessment, based on hospital quality standards, hospital recommendations from colleagues, patient experience and patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) application survey categories, once again demonstrated Hacettepe University's success in the field of healthcare beyond national borders. According to the results, Hacettepe University Hospitals ranked 234th among 2,500 healthcare institutions worldwide that made it into the rankings. While six state university hospitals made it onto the list, which included 35 hospitals from Turkey, Hacettepe University ranked first among state university hospitals and second among the 35 healthcare institutions that made it onto the list, including private healthcare institutions, with a score of 83.54%, following Koç University Hospital. With this achievement, Hacettepe University Hospitals once again demonstrated its pioneering role in the field of healthcare.
