
High school students from Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory won third place at the Mediterranean Opera and Ballet Club (AKOB) National Chamber Music Competition held in Mersin on May 23. In the competition, which featured intense rivalry among 32 different groups from across Türkiye, “Hacettepe Bass Quartet” achieved a significant success by advancing through the first stage and finishing third among the 10 groups that qualified for the second round.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Alper Müfettişoğlu, Head of the Double Bass Department at the conservatory, the high school students competed with Bernhard Alt’s work “Double Bass Quartet” and shared the stage with undergraduate and graduate-level competitors.
Commenting on the competition process, Prof. Dr. Cenk Güray, faculty member of the Department of Musicology at the Ankara State Conservatory, emphasized that the most remarkable aspect of this achievement was that the participants were still high school students. Güray congratulated both the students and their instructors, and also noted that several ensembles consisting of Ankara State Conservatory students were among the finalists.
