International University Sports Federation (FISU) World Summer Universiade Games were held this year in the Rhine-Ruhr region of Germany. Şevval Çakal, a student at Hacettepe University, won the gold medal in the 62 kg Taekwondo category.
Şevval Çakal, who brought the pride of our university to the gold medal, advanced to the first round as the top seed and won without a match. She then defeated opponents from Kazakhstan, Ecuador, Thailand, and the Czech Republic to win the championship. In the final match, which paved the way for the gold medal, Şevval Çakal defeated Petro Stolbova of the Czech Republic 2-0.
This year, Turkey experienced its first gold medal at the FISU World Summer Universiade Games with our student Şevval Çakal, winning 6 gold, 5 silver, and 7 bronze medals.
Federation President Prof. Dr. Türkmen expressed his gratitude.
