“Strong Family with Mother” event at Hacettepe

The Faculty of Education at Hacettepe University organized a special Mother’s Day event to honor mothers and all women who work like mothers. The event, organized on May 16 with the theme of “Strong Family with Mother”, was held at the Tunçalp Özgen Congress and Culture Center.

The opening speech of the event was made by the Dean of our Faculty of Education, Prof. Dr. Şefika Şule Erçetin. Erçetin said the following in her speech, indicating the meaning and importance of the day:

“Today, we have come together to honor a feeling that perhaps even words are inadequate: “motherhood”. Motherhood is the name of sacrifice, patience, compassion, and unconditional love. Not only those who give birth, but also those who raise, feed, protect, guide, and guide, are worthy of this title. At the faculty of education, we are trying to convey not only knowledge but also values, emotions, and the importance of being human to our teacher candidates. We respectfully and lovingly remember the mothers who have lost their children but not their love, all women who have touched the heart and soul of a child even if they do not have children, and everyone who is waiting to become a mother and keeps their mothers alive in their hearts.”

Our Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Cahit Güran, who attended the event, also made a speech and thanked the Dean of the Faculty of Education for this organization that they are organizing for the second time. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Cahit Güran said, “I am very happy to be with you in this organization themed on strong mothers and strong families. Every individual starts life with what their mothers teach them. Therefore, our mothers are our first teachers. Therefore, it is natural for the faculty of education to take ownership of this issue.”

As part of the event; following the opening exhibition, musical recital and speeches, a panel titled “Becoming a Mother: Motherhood as a Universal Bond” was held, which addressed the universal dimensions of motherhood. Participants from different fields shared information about motherhood in the panel.

Journalist and author Fadime Özkan, Cerebral Palsy Children Association Secretary General Edibe Sinem Ersoy, and Veteran and Martyr Families Foundation Representative Sevim Usta, mother of a martyr, participated in the panel as speakers. The panel discussed the social and individual effects of motherhood, inspiring stories of mothers, women’s labor and family structure.
