Following the 2025 YKS process, 5,934 students who enrolled in our University came together in Turkey's most well-attended “ÜNİ101: Introduction to University Life” course.
On September 15, the Beytepe Campus Open Amphitheater, which hosted the first day of the program, was the place where thousands of new students experienced the excitement of the first lesson. The orientation held within the scope of the UNI101 program for the 2025-2026 Academic Year started with student community booth activities. Following the program, which continued with the University Jazz Orchestra Concert, our Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Cahit Güran made an opening speech. The first lecture of the students was held under the title of “New World Skills” led by Prof. Dr. Sinan Canan.

Prof. Dr. Güran: “You will feel the privileges of studying at Hacettepe University”
In the opening speech of the UNI101 program, Hacettepe University Rector Prof. Dr. Cahit Güran wished the newly enrolled students success and pointed out that our university is one of the most prestigious universities and said the following:
"During your education at Hacettepe University, which is one of the most prestigious universities not only on a national scale but also on a global scale, you will learn what a right decision you have made by choosing Hacettepe University. You will feel the privileges of studying at Hacettepe University throughout your life."
“We aim to be a pioneering research university that you are proud to be a member of”
Pointing out that Hacettepe University is a research-focused university, Prof. Dr. Güran said that it aims to raise highly qualified, inquisitive individuals who are open to change and development in the fields of science, technology and art. Rector Güran stated that Hacettepe University aims to present the knowledge, services and technology it produces for the benefit of society and said, “Hacettepe University aims to be a pioneering research university that directs the development of our country by prioritizing social problems and is proud to be a member.”
Prof. Dr. Cahit Güran continued his words as follows:
“I hope that these ethical values and principles and the philosophy of ”further and better“ will be the strongest lights that illuminate your journey in your future life. The academic climate of Hacettepe University, which is suitable for universal qualities, will not only provide you with knowledge specific to your field, but will also enable you to stand out in your environments by providing you with a solution-oriented approach with a thinking, questioning, constructive and critical perspective.”
Rector Güran concluded his speech by giving advice to the students about university life.

Prof. Dr. Sinan Canan: “I am facing a very distinguished audience”
The first lecture of UNİ101 was given by Prof. Dr. Sinan Canan, who has achieved many successes in his field after graduating from the Biology Department of the Faculty of Science of our University in 1995.
Prof. Dr. Sinan Canan, who met with new Hacettepe students in the opening lecture titled “New World Skills”, examined the position of today's people at the point where technology has reached today. Canan conveyed his congratulations to the students who won Hacettepe University and used the following expressions:
"I am facing a very distinguished audience, the excitement is great. In 20 years, 30 years, 40 years, maybe in a Nobel Prize ceremony, maybe in a Pulitzer Prize, maybe in a Grammy Prize, we would like to see you there. We hope for this. I personally believe that your university education, which started in this distinguished institution, will make a great contribution to this."
“We have an important duty to transfer knowledge to society”
Emphasizing the public aspect of the knowledge produced at public universities, Prof. Dr. Canan emphasized the necessity of transferring the knowledge produced there to society with the following words:
"The new knowledge you learn at the university is accumulated at the university, which is largely financed by public resources. People need to know this. Please think of ways to convey, explain and present it to them. We have a very important duty to transfer knowledge to society."
The first day of the UNI101 program ended with the roll call after the opening speech and the opening lecture.
UNI101 will continue until Friday, September 19th
The 2025-2026 Academic Year UNI101 program, which began at the Beytepe Campus with the participation of thousands of students, will continue until Friday, September 19th. This year, UNI101, a one-credit compulsory course required of all newly enrolled students at a faculty or college of Hacettepe University, will be organized into four groups: an opening ceremony, participatory talks, a departmental introduction, a campus tour, and a closing concert.
